A Considered Approach to Employment Law

Legal advice that is thorough, proportionate, and grounded in the realities of the Singapore workplace.

MOM-Current Expertise

Our team monitors Ministry of Manpower advisories and Employment Act amendments so your agreements and policies reflect what the law actually requires today.

Both Sides of the Table

We advise employers of all sizes as well as individual employees, which gives us a practical understanding of how disputes typically unfold and how to approach them sensibly.

Confidential by Default

Every instruction we receive is handled with strict professional confidentiality. Sensitive personnel matters and internal disputes remain entirely private.

Clear, Usable Deliverables

Contracts and handbooks drafted here are written in plain, direct language that your team can actually follow — not documents that require a further lawyer to interpret.

Responsive Turnaround

Employment matters often move quickly. We keep engagements focused and timelines realistic so you are not left waiting while circumstances change around you.

Tactful Communication

We explain your options without unnecessary jargon or pressure. Your instructions guide the engagement, and we keep you informed at every meaningful step.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Straightforward answers to the questions clients ask most often before their first meeting.

What does the employment contract review cover?

We assess the contract against the Employment Act and current MOM guidelines, flag terms that may be unenforceable or non-compliant, and provide written commentary with recommended changes. If a full redraft is needed, that can be arranged within the same engagement.

How long does it take to prepare a staff handbook?

A standard handbook engagement takes approximately two to three weeks from the initial briefing to delivery of the final document. More complex situations — for instance, companies with multiple work arrangements or specific PDPA requirements — may require additional time, which we will discuss upfront.

Can Tembusu Law assist with TADM proceedings?

Yes. We assist with the preparation of position statements, advise on negotiating positions, and provide advisory support throughout the mediation process at the Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management. Where matters progress to the Employment Claims Tribunals, we can continue to advise on your options.

What is the difference between wrongful dismissal and termination with notice?

Termination with proper notice — or payment in lieu — is generally lawful if the contractual and statutory requirements are met. Wrongful dismissal arises when an employee is dismissed in breach of contract, without proper cause, or in contravention of certain statutory protections such as those relating to pregnancy or injury. The specific circumstances matter considerably, and we would assess these with you before advising.

Are your fees fixed or variable?

The fees listed for each service are our standard starting rates. Engagements that are straightforward in scope are typically completed at or close to the stated fee. Where a matter is more complex — for example, a dispute with several overlapping claims — we will discuss the expected scope and any fee variation before proceeding.

Do you act for both employers and employees?

Yes. Tembusu Law advises employers ranging from small businesses to larger organisations, as well as individual employees. We do not act for both sides in the same matter, but advising across the spectrum gives us useful insight into how employment situations typically develop from each perspective.
